A thought-provoking movie, young at heart!!!

The film revolves around a group of five friends in college who are into everything except studies. “Apni to paathshala, MASTI ki paathshala.”- This can be seen in the first half of the movie. Best thing about the first half of the movie is that you can relate your college life with their’s.

None of the five friends in the movie had any definite aim in their life nor was anyone trying hard to achieve anything great, which is quite true for current generation of youth (including me).

On one side we always keep on saying “India is the best”, “I’m proud to be Indian” etc etc… and on the other side we keep on cribbing about Corruption, Dirty Politics, Religious Extremism, Caste System, and what not!!! But have we ever thought “What have we done to improve any of these?” Leave alone of doing something to improve the situation but truth is that we ourselves are part of the corrupt system. I’m sure that whoever is reading this has definitely bribed his/her way out to get some favors. I would accept that yes I have done that quite a lot of times, be it in train to get reserved seat, or bribing a traffic cop, bribing for quick processing of the passport, bribing with dollars to get custom clearance at airport and the list is endless. I guess everyone including me would continue to do the same. But I'm also sure that if we all take small steps to improve ourselves one day things would automatically fall into place.

Coming back to the movie every character has given a great performance. A.R.Rehman is at his best in the music. All of the songs fit into the movie and you never feel like songs are burden. Background score is great. Kudos to Rehman for RDB. My personal best is “Rubaroo” and “Pathshala”. “Tu Bin Bataye, Mujhe Le Chal Kahi...” sung by Madhushree, Naresh Iyer is getting on to me, very nice and pleasant song, real soothing :-).

Second half of the movie is entirely different from the first half. It is more about the realization of actual world, how ruthless this world can be. Movie takes a dig at petty politics and shows how the death of one of the best pilot of Indian Air Force is used for political mileage. Even after he laid down his life to protect few innocent souls he is rewarded with a bad name, and was branded as a reckless pilot.

I’m not going to write the entire story because it’s better to watch the movie rather than reading the review. Especially a novice like me cannot do any justice to a soul-stirring movie like “Rang De Basanti”.

So go and watch the movie if you haven’t done so. Because I’m going in for the second time.

JAI HIND!!!

Why do you think that everyone is same as you described and they are not trying to change the scenario prevailing in India? I have never bribed my way through any of the things you mentioned as for instance - the inspector who came for police verification for my passport asked for money to which I plainly refused irrespective of whether I got my passport or not; likewise I refused to take seat when a TTE in indian railways asked for money in return when I was waitlisted and he had vacant seats in his capacity to allocate. As for the former case, I got my passport in plain Rs. 300 in a timely manner and in the latter case a good samaritan offered me a seat which he had extra.

I have an endless list of such instances where I was expected/forced to pay money to get my work through and I did not but still I got my work done (of course I had some bitter experiences too). I am not saying that you were wrong in doing these things or I am right by not giving in at times like these. My point here is that the younger generation in India should make a conscious effort to exercise their rights with patience and perseverance instead of taking the easy way out. And I am sure the outcome would be far more fruitful than “I’m sure everyone including me would continue to do the same” attitude. The title of your blog is far from the content and message it conveys.

So go and watch the movie if you haven’t done so. Because I’m going in for the second time. JAI HIND!!. Do watch the movie second time but it will be worth it if you really mean it as per your blog title and not for entertainment purpose. I have been doing towards the cause and will continue doing it hoping that someday younger generation of India will also contribute towards it. Even I will watch it twice and I mean it.

I would term those people as "Stupids" whose conscience speaks up only after watching a movie. The movie is good no doubt, it's inspiring. If you want to bring a change, it's only you who can rise up to the challenge. But it's a pity, 25 (more or less) years of experience couldn't bring about that change.

i also agree with ur thots...
i wonder why people are not able to understand the "real message" that the movie wants to convey! why should there be debates regarding the views this movie has projected...!!
isnt the motive of all of us the same-- to improve the conditions of India?
so lets work towards the goal... lets not just sit and debate about the best way to achieve this goal... let everyone work his own way to get THERE!
